Last Day of State Assessments!!
Hey 3rd graders! Happy Thursday! When you came into the classroom this morning you spotted your part for our Fractured Fairy Tale plays. During our morning meeting we had a special show and tell from Hennessey and went over the day’s announcements.
After morning meeting, you went outside to get some fresh air before it was time to take your last ELA state assessment. Thank you to those of you who took your time, used your test taking strategies, and tried your best! When everyone was finished, you got to go back outside for a brain break.
When you returned to the classroom, you began working on your matchstick puzzles again. We were happy to see that every group worked together and you were much more successful because you had a GROWTH mindset and did not give up, even when the puzzle seemed impossible. Way to go!
For science today, you sorted fruits into five groups by comparing their leaves, flowers, and insides. Scientists think that oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits are just different varieties of some kind of original citrus fruit. So once again, you were able to see that by discovering some knowledge about how living things inherit their traits, we can use the process of selection to create new and different varieties of plants from what's originally found in the wild.
When our science lesson was over, you got to preview our 3rd Grade Talent Show Act - Cardio Desk Drumming! Several of you signed up for the act, we will start practicing very soon! It’s going to be AWESOME!
During today’s reading lesson, we read the fractured fairy tales, Goatilocks and the Three Bears and Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs. After reading the stories, you compared and contrasted the theme, plot, and setting of the two. For an extra dollar, comment below what the theme of both stories was!
After our reading lesson, you got together with your castmates to practice for your play. Today’s main focus was to get familiar with your script. We will keep practicing and if you need props, backgrounds, or special effects we can talk about that later!
At the end of the day we got back outside for another recess and then it was time to go home!
You have officially survived your first year of State Assessments - give yourself a pat on the back! Your teachers are so proud of all the hard work you have done!
Have a great night and we will see you tomorrow for a fun Friday!
