Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays 3rd Graders! We loved seeing your festive spirit as you walked in the door this morning. During morning meeting you learned that our class has adopted a cow! This cow won’t actually be in our classroom, it lives on a farm in Sabetha, Kansas. Next week we will get to see pictures of our adopted calf and find out her name!

In today’s read aloud, you learned all about birds and their unique characteristics. Birds come in all different shapes and sizes, but all birds are warm-blooded, egg-laying vertebrates with feathers and wings.

During reading rotations, Mrs. Day and Mrs. Meridith introduced you to a new project - Animal Habitat Dioramas. During Mrs. Day’s group, you learned about informational paragraph strategies. These strategies will be helpful when you use your animal research to write a paragraph! In Mrs. Meridith’s group, you chose the animal that you want to research and learned the requirements for your shoebox habitat diorama. Remember to look for a shoebox at home tonight! If you can’t find one, let your teachers know and we will help you out. A note is being sent home to let your parents know all about this project. The research part will be done at home, but the shoebox diorama is to be completed at home. You also practiced your new spelling words and patterns with Miss Malorie and Miss Gurley.

After Reading Prime Time and Daily 5, we continued reading Because of Winn-Dixie.

During social studies, we practiced our map skills by reading a map of “Sun Valley.” Together with your cohorts, you used a map key, symbols and a compass rose to answer questions about Sun Valley. Great job working together and getting the assignment done!

For today’s math rotations, you met with your teachers for a lesson about decomposing liters into 100 milliliters, 10 milliliters, and 1 milliliter. For a bonus ticket, comment below what capacity means. You went to math prime time or completed a time activity on your menu. For technology time, you completed math lessons on Reflex.

Tomorrow’s theme is COLOR WARS, so wear your favorite color! See you tomorrow!
