Green Eggs and Ham

Happy ThursYAY 3rd grade gang! We started this morning out by filling out breakfast/lunch count and testing out your secret locks for science. After greeting each other like monsters and a few announcements, our student of the week, Davy, shared a cool exercise ball for show and tell.

Once morning meeting was over, we began our read aloud for whole group reading. Today's read aloud was all about astronaut Mae Jemison. Mae Jemison was the first African-American female astronaut in the history of NASA. She traveled into space and lived on the space shuttle Endeavor for 8 days. She conducted many experiments about how weightlessness affects plants and animals. You also read about Mae in Chapter 12 of your little reader with your cohorts.

In today's rotations you met with Mrs. Day for a writing lesson about contractions. A contraction is a word made by shortening and combining two words. For an extra dollar, change the words "should have" into a contraction! In math with Mrs. Meridith you reviewed the associative property and used it as a strategy to multiply. In Miss Gurley's group you took your weekly spelling and times test and then worked on your planet reports.

During story time, we read Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham. After we finished the story, you got to create your own weird foods by either using your play-doh or drawing it. Then you shared your creations with the class. You guys came up with some strange food concoctions such as salmon topped with chocolate and burritos with sprinkles.

For today's science lesson, you solved the problem of how to use magnets to create a lock for a secret room. You experimented with different designs, and you had to test things to figure out what worked and what didn't work to solve the problem. There are many different solutions that could've worked. After we concluded this experiment, it was time for you to show what you have learned about different forces by taking an assessment. We can tell you have learned a lot!

Once we finished our afternoon rotations, it was time to pack up and go home.

Enjoy your 3 day weekend kiddos! We will see you back in class on Monday :)
